Some of you might’ve noticed that I checked in at Comiskey Park U.S. Cellular Field Saturday afternoon. But some of you might’ve spotted that and gone, “Hang on a minute, Steve–weren’t you supposed to see the Hip on Saturday?” Oh but I was, prescient reader–at least until the band’s gear got ruined in a rain storm in Buffalo Friday night and their Saturday show in Aurora, IL (home of Wayne and Garth!) got canned as a result. And so instead of seeing my second-ever American Hip show–my very first Hip concert, on July 8, 2000, was also in the States–I saw the White Sox beat the Braves at U.S. Cellular Field. (The stadium’s alright–but it could’ve been so much more. It’s a swing-and-a-miss by HOK, whose next ballpark design was Baltimore’s spectacular Camden Yards; on the other hand, it served deep-fried cheese curds and the Minnesota craft beer I had was delicious.) Then Sherkin, Pearl Jam Heather, and I went out in Wrigleyville one more time and capped off what was nothing less than a spectacular weekend. On paper, between the Hip cancellation and the three-hour rain delay during Pearl Jam, it might look like kind of a bust–but in reality it was anything but. Complete review from Wrigley still to come!
