Greetings from Edmonton–Canada’s northernmost capital, erstwhile “City of Champions” and a place where, prior to tonight, I’ve never actually slept (every other visit’s been abbreviated, most recently last November’s Leafs/Oilers game). The drive up from Calgary was uneventful, save for the slowest Starbucks experience I’ve ever had (je t’accuse, Starbucks at 67th Avenue in Red Deer!). I also bought, for no particular reason, three brand new CDs: Matthew Good, Live at Massey Hall; Yo La Tengo, Popular Songs (which is not a greatest hits album); and the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night (remastered edition…and while we’re on the subject, the remastered Beatles albums sound great. As an example, check out “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” from Abbey Road; I defy you not to weep when you hear how good the organ sounds.) And while I’d love to rant about the Vikings’ pass defense in light of this afternoon’s undeserved 33-31 win over the Baltimore Ravens…screw it. We’re 6-0. And in disturbing news, I’ve begun warming to this Favre fellow.
