Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Glory Day

The best was how I pretended like I wasn’t going to be there tonight. Just a setlist for now; notes are in italics, bolded songs are ones I’d never heard live before.

Set:

  • Badlands (what an opening!)
  • No Surrender (I’ve somehow heard “No Surrender” every time I’ve seen Springsteen)
  • Outlaw Pete
  • She’s the One
  • Working on a Dream (surprisingly tolerable)
  • Seeds (killer)
  • Johnny 99
  • The Ghost of Tom Joad (Nils Lofgren 1, Tom Morello 0)
  • Raise Your Hand
  • E Street Shuffle (sign request)
  • Prove It All Night (sign request)
  • Louie Louie (sign request…and hey, did you know this song was once considered so offensive it was banned from radio?)
  • Waitin’ on a Sunny Day (Springsteen die-hards hate this song, but it never fails to energize a room)
  • The Promised Land
  • Racing in the Street (heart-stopping)
  • Kingdom of Days (either the first- or second-best song from Working on a Dream)
  • Radio Nowhere
  • Lonesome Day
  • The Rising
  • Born to Run (greatest moment in live rock n’ roll…still)
Encore:
  • Hard Times [trad.] (beautiful)
  • Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
  • Land of Hope and Dreams
  • American Land(again, die-hards hate this song…and I love it)
  • Rosalita(…which was delirious, and which seemed like a show-closer–until Bruce shouted, “One more for the Canucks!”)
  • Glory Days (yup, that’s right, I’d never heard this live until tonight. It was the perfect ending.)

Tinitis is awesome when it’s for a show like this.
