97 Things You Didn’t Need to Know About Me

Firstly, welcome back ol’ man winter! Evidently he isn’t going down without a fight: last night he dumped 15cm of wet snow onto Calgary, thus turning our city (which doesn’t believe in snowplowing any more than it believes in curbside recycling) into a sticky, slippery mess. Thanks, ol’ man winter!

Secondly, since there’s no compelling reason to be anywhere else on this sticky, slippery day, here’s a list of ninety-seven things about me which you a, probably didn’t know, and b, probably don’t need to know.   3. How tall are you? 6’0″
  4. What do you look forward to most in the next six weeks? Visiting Toronto next weekend
  5. What’s the last movie you saw? The Watchmen
  6. Who was the last person you called? Bri Monster
  7. Who was the last person to call you? My friend Sarah
  8. What was the last text message you received? Gloating text messages from Irish Tim and J-What arrived almost simultaneously following Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Aston Villa. Glory hunters.
  9. Who was the last person to leave you a voicemail? Uh…can’t remember, to be honest. But I’ve getting a lot of them lately.
  10. Do you prefer to call or text? Text
  11. What were you doing at 12am last night? Falling asleep
  12. Are your parents married/separated/divorced? Married, somehow
  13. When is the last time you saw your mum? Early February
  14. What colour are your eyes? Greenish-grey
  15. What time did you wake up today? Quarter to nine
  16. What are you wearing right now? Clothes
  17. What is your favourite Christmas song? “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”
  18. Where is your favourite places to be? New York, London and Toronto
  19. Where is your least favourite place to be? A cubicle
  20. Where would you go if you could go anywhere? The Himalaya
  21. Where do you think you’ll be in 10 years? Back in Toronto
  22. Do you tan or burn? Tan, then burn
  23. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child? Nothing, as far as I know
  24. What was the last thing that really made you laugh? Doug Hart’s performance at Joyce on 4th last night
  25. How many TVs do you have in your house? One, and one’s enough
  26. How big is your bed? Big enough for two
  27. Do you have a laptop or desktop computer? A laptop I use as a desktop
  28. Do you sleep with or without clothes on? With clothes
  29. What colour are your sheets? Light blue
  30. How many pillows do you sleep with? Five
  31. What is your favourite season? Autumn
  32. What do you like about autumn? The weather and the leaves
  33. What do you like about winter? Christmas, the beginning of ski season
  34. What do you like about the summer? Calgary’s lack of humidity
  35. What do you like about spring? There’s no such season here.
  36. How many counties have you lived in? Technically two, Canada and the United States, but I only “lived” in the United States insomuch as my parents lived a year in New Jersey and I spent a lot of time there as well.
  37. What cities/towns have you lived in? Thunder Bay, Kingston, East Windsor NJ (see #36), Oshawa (see #36), Toronto, Calgary
  38. Do you prefer shoes, socks, or bare feet? Sandals
  39. Are you a social person? Most of the time–but sometimes I’m pretty introverted
  40. What was the last thing you ate? A Dutch pancake (thanks, Alison!)
  41. What is your favourite restaurant? The Hoito
  42. What is your favourite ice cream? Vanilla
  43. What is your favourite dessert? My mom’s chocolate cake
  44. What is your favourite kind of soup? Chicken noodle
  45. What kind of jelly do you like? You mean jam? In which case, strawberry.
  46. Do you like Chinese food? Of course
  47. Do you like coffee? I’ve got two–two!–cups in front of me as we speak…yet ironically, I’m trying to phase coffee out in favour of green tea. It’s working, too.
  48. How many glasses of water, a day, do you drink on average? Lots
  49. What do you drink in the morning? Milk, green tea
  50. Do you sleep on a certain side of the bed? The right side
  51. Do you know how to play Poker? Yes
  52. Do you like to cuddle? Yes
  53. Have you ever been to Canada? Uh… (*searching for something clever to say*)
  54. Do you have an addictive personality? I’ve seen The Phantom of the Opera twenty-three itmes; read into that what you will.
  55. Do you eat out or at home more often? At home
  56. Do you know anyone with the same birthday as you? Two: Miragh, who’s getting married in six days, and Sam, who’s been married ever since we’ve met
  57. Do you want kids? Yes
  58. Do you speak any other languages? French fluently, German poorly
  59. Have you ever gotten stitches? Oh yes.
  60. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance? A long, long time ago
  61. Do you prefer an ocean or a pool? An ocean
  62. Do you prefer a window seat or an aisle seat? An aisle seat, so I can stretch my legs
  63. Do you know how to drive? Of course
  64. What is your favourite thing to spend money on? Music
  65. Do you wear any jewellery 24/7? I don’t wear jewellery period, let alone 24/7
  66. What is your favourite TV show? Friday Night Lights, with honourable mention to The Office and Being Erica (and speaking of Being Erica: last week I wrote about the show for Torontoist, and the entry cased a bit of a stir. Check it out!)
  67. Can you roll your tongue? Yup
  68. Who is the funniest person you know? I know lots of funny people
  69. Do you sleep with stuffed animals? No–but both Boris and Fat Guts stand sentry in my bedroom
  70. What is the main ring tone on your phone? “In View” by the Tragically Hip (“Phone rings once, phone rings twice…”)
  71. Do you still have clothes from when you were little? Me personally? No.
  72. What red object is closest to you right now? An empty Coke can
  73. Do you turn off the water while you brush your teeth? No–they frown on that sort of thing here in Calgary
  74. Do you sleep with your wardrobe doors open or closed? Neither: I don’t own a wardrobe
  75. Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of bees? Bear, hands down
  76. Do you flirt a lot? Yes, albeit unsuccessfully
  77. What do you dip a chicken nugget in? Nothing, usually
  78. What is your favourite food? Cheerios
  79. Can you change the oil on a car? Yes
  80. Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket? Yup, en route to a soccer match in which I broke my foot. Calgary still uses photo radar, by the way; have I mentioned how backwards this city can be?
  81. Have you ever run out of fuel? In terms of auto fuel? No.
  82. What is your usual bedtime? Between 10-11pm
  83. What was the last book you read? The City Game by Pete Axthelm, which I suggest all of you read as well
  84. Do you read the newspaper? Online, yes
  85. Do you have any magazine subscriptions? Yes, to Sports Illustrated, Maclean’s and Rolling Stone
  86. Do you watch soap operas? No–although I had a friend in Grade 4 who was addicted to The Young & the Restless
  87. Do you dance in the car? Worse: I air drum, with coordinated hand-and-foot gestures.
  88. What radio station did you last listen to? Little Steven’s Underground Garage
  89. Who is in the picture frame closest to you? Katie Harder
  90. What was the last note you scribbled on a piece of paper? A student number
  91. What is your favourite candle scent? Uh…
  92. What is your favourite board game? Scrabble, of course
  93. When was the last time you attended church? I can’t remember, actually
  94. Who was your favourite teacher in secondary school? Mr. Yaciuk
  95. What is the longest you have ever camped out in a tent? I don’t know if I ever have
  96. What is something that you can’t wait for? The Ride to Conquer Cancer!
  97. If you could go back in time is there anything you would change? Nothing: “Forget regret, or life is yours to miss.”
