Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band in Vancouver

And see, that’s the great thing about rock n’ roll: no matter how often you hear it (or, in this case, no matter how often you see it), don’t ever underestimate its ability to shock you.

Case in point: tonight’s Springsteen concert in Vancouver. I’m exhausted from two-and-a-half hours of uninterrupted rocking out/dancing/acting out “Rosalita” to a very impressed Bri Monster…but for now, here’s the setlist. CHECK THIS OUT.

Set:

  • ATLANTIC CITY (tour premiere!)
  • Radio Nowhere
  • No Surrender
  • Lonesome Day
  • Gypsy Biker
  • Magic
  • Trapped!!
  • Reason to Believe
  • Because the Night*
  • She’s the One
  • Living in the Future
  • The Promised Land
  • Waitin’ on a Sunny Day
  • NONE BUT THE BRAVE (a world premiere! This is an outtake from Born in the U.S.A., for goodness’ sake!)
  • The River!
  • Devils Arcade
  • The Rising
  • Last to Die
  • Long Walk Home
  • Badlands

Encore:

  • Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out!
  • Rosalita (I will never grow tired of this song; tonight’s version obliterated the one from Toronto in 2003, and that one was pretty damn good)
  • Born to Run
  • Dancing in the Dark
  • American Land

What. A. Show.

Oh, and re: the *: Nils Lofgren’s solo which punctuated “Because the Night” was, without question, the greatest guitar solo I’ve witnessed, and I say this with great respect to some of the great guitarists I’ve seen. Time for a night on J-1s’ couch before an early morning flight back to Calgary!

(Addendum: And it could’ve been even better: according to Springsteen’s hand-written setlist, the very cool “Reason to Believe” was actually supposed to be…”Murder Incorporated.” I can’t complain. But that would’ve ruled.)

  1. I was going to see him in Otown in November but the tickets sold out super fast…Speaking of good old fashioned rock’n’roll, check out my blog for a quotation I stumbled across and enjoyed.
