It’s a match made in movie musical heaven: Tim Burton, who fetishizes Grand Guignol, and Stephen Sondheim’s 1979 musical Sweeney Todd, which in many ways epitomizes the form. The results are predictably stunning; you owe it to yourself to see this movie, regardless of whether you’re a fan of (or even know anything about) the musical itself.
(And in unrelated news: as expected, I’m off to England tomorrow. It’s gonna be a family-oriented stay, with the notable exception of a two-day visit to see Paul and Tracy up in Liverpool. On New Year’s Day, I’m taking HLP Paul to see Manchester United at Old Trafford; this is going to be a humiliating experience for Paul, and I can’t wait for the photographic evidence to emerge. I wanted to post a view from our seats, but when I googled “East Stand E334” the first hit was this. Thoroughly appropriate, mind–but still.)
(And in other, unrelated news: Bri Monster just refused to get out of bed because she claimed to have found a heat bubble hidden underneath the covers which she then had to eat. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.)
